DUCTLESS HEAT PUMPS

Ductless (mini-split) heat pumps work the same as standard air-source heat pumps except they require no ducting. Ductless systems allow for flexibility in where you deliver heating and cooling in your home without the use of ductwork. This becomes convenient when installing or extending ducting is not feasible because of space or aesthetics.

Mini-splits consist of an outdoor compressor/condenser unit and one or more indoor air-handling units called “heads”. A conduit, which houses the power cable. refrigerant tubing, suction tubing, and a condensate drain, links the indoor and outdoor unit. These heads are typically mounted high up on a wall in a particular zone allowing that area to be heated and cooled independently. Some units can have up to four heads connected to one outdoor unit.
